Japan’s economy minister set to resign over Unification Church ties

Economic Revitalization Minister Daishiro Yamagiwa has expressed his intention to resign over his ties to the controversial Unification Church, a source said on Monday, in another blow to Prime Minister Fumio Kishida’s Cabinet.

The decision comes after calls from opposition parties for Yamagiwa’s resignation since the start of the parliamentary session held on October 3. Kishida had rejected the request, but Yamagiwa apparently gave in to growing calls for him to resign.
