COLLINSVILLE – Revive Church at 1105 Belt Line Road in Collinsville received a special visit from Urban Outreach during its worship service last Sunday.
Urban Outreach is a downtown urban ministry that serves the addicted, the afflicted and the desperate.
Urban Outreach organizers described it to the congregation as a debt-free ministry that relies on donations and generosity from individuals, businesses and churches to help us reach inner cities across The United States They are currently in 10 cities, with 3 of their works here in the Midwest, East St. Louis, Washington Park and St. Louis. And, the most recent job is in Indianapolis, IN.
The organization rises up and sends missionaries into inner cities to find out what the greatest need is, then go out and meet that need. For example, they have found that in Indianapolis homeless people need access to showers, and they are currently working to equip an RV with two safe showers, one for women and one for men.
“The goal of Urban Outreach is to provide homeless people with a safe and secure place to shower with access to clean clothes and to have barbers and beauticians give free haircuts,” they wrote. they told those present on Sunday. “Also, direct them to programs currently in place to help them find housing and job training. We are a relationship-building ministry that loves people where they are by being hands and feet of Christ.”
Inquiries for Urban Outreach can be made at PO Box 186, East St. Louis, IL., 62202.
