What’s open, closed for Labor Day 2022 at Falls Church

FALLS CHURCH, VA – Residents will bid farewell to summer as the season unofficially ends with Labor Day weekend. As families host backyard barbecues or head to the beach for late summer fun, there will be various holiday closures.

If you’re in town over the Labor Day holiday, here are the openings and closings to be aware of around Falls Church:

Falls City Church Government Offices: Closed Monday, September 5. Closures include City Hall (300 Park Ave.), Gage House (401 Great Falls St.) and the Property Yard (7100 Gordon Rd.). There will be no city council meeting during the week of September 5, with the next one scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on September 12.

Fairfax County Government Offices: Closed on Monday 5th Sept.

Falls Church City Public Schools: Schools are closed for the Labor Day holiday from September 2-5.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Schools are closed for the Labor Day holiday from September 2-5.

Community centers: The Falls Church Community Center is closed September 4-5. On September 3, the community center will not have any programs or rooms available due to maintenance and cleaning, but the reception and washrooms will be open. Neighborhood Community Centers and Fairfax County Community Services are closed September 3-5. Fasttran will not operate on September 5.

Courts: The Fairfax and Arlington County Circuit Court, General District Court and District Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court will be closed on September 5.

Department of Motor Vehicles: All DMV Customer Service Centers are generally closed on Labor Day.

Fairfax connector: Fairfax Connector will have service on Sunday September 5th. The following routes will operate on a Sunday schedule: 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 505, 551, 558, 559, 574, 605, 630, 640, 650, 721, 803, 937, 950, 981, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. All other routes do not operate on Sundays and will not operate not September 5th. For more information, visit www.fairfaxcounty.gov/connector.

Libraries: The Mary Riley Styles Public Library will be closed September 4-5. On September 5, all Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed.

Subway: The metro will operate on a holiday schedule on Sunday, September 5 from 7 a.m. to midnight. Metro has closed five Orange Line stations between Stadium-Armory and New Carrollton until September 5. On September 2, 5 and 6, the Green Line will have a single track between Southern Avenue and Naylor Road. From September 5-8, the Red Line will have a single track after 10 p.m. between Silver Spring and Forest Glen. Check back here for detailed info on Metrorail on weekends.

Post Office: Closed Sept 5.

Leisure centers: All Fairfax County recreation centers are open for regular hours until 6 p.m. Sept. 5, except for the George Washington Rec Center, which is closed.

Trash and recycling: City of Falls Church patrons conduct collections on Wednesdays. Fairfax County collection customers will have collection services on September 5. Private collection customers should check with their carrier for any changes.

Waste collection centers and recycling centres: The recycling and disposal centers at the I-66 Transfer Station (4618 West Ox Road) and the I-95 Landfill Complex (9850 Furnace Road) open September 5.
